STAGE AUDITION
Learn both parts A & B for this script as you will be allocated one of these roles on the day of the audition. You will be asked to “workshop” this scene with a partner allocated to you on the day and there is a chance you will swap roles to see which part you play best. PLEASE REMEMER: no scripts will be allowed on stage during your audition so ensure you know your lines.
“THE DESK”
A: Put it back.
B: I didn’t take anything.
A: You were in her desk.
B: I dropped something.
A: Into a locked drawer?
(beat)
A: What did you take?
B: Nothing.
A: Open your bag.
B: No.
A: If I tell her, you’re done.
B: I know.
(beat. B hesitates, then opens the bag slightly. A sees it — surprised)
A: …Why would you take that?
B: I needed it.
A: For what?
B: I can’t tell you.
A: You have to.
B: No.
(beat)
A: This is serious.
B: I know.
A: Then why do it?
(B almost answers — stops)
B: …I didn’t have a choice.
(beat. A studies them)
A: Is it going to hurt someone?
B: No.
A: Help someone?
(B doesn’t answer)
(quiet)
A: You should put it back.
B: I can’t.
(beat)
A: …You’ve got until the bell.
B: Why?
A: Because it matters to you.
(beat)
B: It does.
FILM AUDITION
For the film you will need to choose one of the two monologues below. You do not need to learn both, JUST ONE. Again, it is important to remember that you must know the learns off by heart as no scripts will be allowed on set whilst you are being filmed.
MONOLOGUE 1: “THE PORTHOLE”
I wasn’t going to tell anyone. Not you, not Mum… no one.
(leans in) Because it’s mine.
I found it behind the old shed — this tiny door, like… barely big enough to even crawl through.
And when I did.
(beat, awe)
All of a sudden, I wasn’t here anymore.
Everything had changed. It was brighter. Louder.
Like the world had turned the volume up. There were trees that glowed,
and water that moved backwards. It was magical.
I could go back right now if I wanted. Whenever I want.
(beat, conflicted)
But if I told anyone, then it wouldn’t be just mine, I’d have to share it.
(quiet, firm)
And I think… I want it to stay just mine.
MONOLOGUE 2: “THE BIRD”
You can’t just take it away!
It’s not like I stole it. It was hurt. I found it outside, near the fence,
and it couldn’t even fly properly. So I brought it in.
Just for a night…
(beat)
But then it stayed. I wanted to make sure it was okay.
It’s not loud, and it doesn’t make a mess.
I will clean everything, I promise!
It trusts me.
(softens)
When I hold it, it doesn’t even try to get away.
(beat, emotional)
If I put it back out there ... what if it gets hurt again?
(pleading, but strong)
I’m not asking for forever … Just until it’s okay. Please.
