ACTING FOR FILM INSTRUCTOR
Gold Coast | Permanent Part-Time | 0.4 FTE | Employee Position
Position @ Burleigh Heads Studio
Do you love acting for screen? Are you brilliant with young people? And can you create the kind of studio young actors can't wait to come back to each week?
Goat Track Theatre is growing on the Gold Coast and we're looking for an exceptional Acting for Film Instructor to become an important part of our Gold Coast team.
This is first and foremost an acting and performance coaching role.
We're looking for someone who understands acting for screen and can teach young performers how to work confidently, naturally and truthfully in front of a camera.
We are NOT looking for a film technician.
While you will need a practical understanding of cameras, framing and the filming process, your primary expertise should be working with actors — not equipment.
This is also not casual teaching or a collection of freelance workshop hours. Our instructors are employed as part of our permanent team, with regular wages, paid annual leave, paid personal/sick leave, superannuation and the security that comes with ongoing employment.
We believe talented arts practitioners should be able to build sustainable careers doing the work they love.
This position is approximately 0.4 FTE, with significant potential to grow as our Acting for Film program continues to expand on the Gold Coast.
For the right candidate, there may also be opportunities to teach and work across other Goat Track programs.
THE ROLE
Our Acting for Film program develops young performers' ability to work confidently and truthfully in front of the camera.
The successful applicant will teach Acting for Film across our primary and secondary-aged programs, delivering an established curriculum that combines actor training with practical on-camera experience.
We're looking for someone who can take excellent curriculum and bring it brilliantly to life.
You will need to understand screen performance, be able to analyse an actor's work and provide clear, practical coaching that helps young performers develop.
The role also involves preparing students for filmed outcomes and working collaboratively with our film operators and wider creative team.
You don't need to be an expert cinematographer or filmmaker.
The camera is the tool. The actor is the focus.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The person we're looking for has that rare combination of excellent screen acting knowledge and excellent people skills.
You might be an actor, screen acting coach, director, drama educator, teaching artist or performing arts practitioner.
Your professional background matters — but so does the way young people respond to you.
Our ideal Acting for Film Instructor is someone who brings genuine warmth and positive energy into a room.
Someone who is enthusiastic, approachable and fun, while also being organised, reliable and committed to delivering excellent training.
You care about your students.
You want them to succeed.
You know how to encourage a nervous young performer, challenge a more experienced actor and create an environment where students feel comfortable taking creative risks.
You can give constructive feedback without diminishing confidence.
And you get genuine satisfaction from watching a young actor develop.
Our strongest instructors create an environment that is:
Warm. Energetic. Structured. Creative. Safe. Fun. Ambitious.
YOU'LL PROBABLY THRIVE AT GOAT TRACK IF YOU...
Genuinely enjoy working with children and teenagers
Bring warmth, humour and positive energy into a room
Have strong knowledge of acting for screen
Are confident coaching and directing actors
Can provide clear, practical performance feedback

Are organised, prepared and reliable
Enjoy working within an established curriculum and program structure
Take feedback well and enjoy collaborating with a team
Have high standards for yourself and your students
Have a genuine desire to see young people succeed
Can work autonomously and take responsibility for your programs
Are looking for stable employment within the arts and an organisation you can grow with
Above all, we're looking for someone whose students would describe them as:
Warm. Knowledgeable. Encouraging. Energetic. Fun.
