DRAMA & THEATRE TEACHER ARTIST

Sunshine Coast | Part-Time / Full-Time Availability | Employee Position

Do you love theatre? Are you brilliant with young people? And are you looking for a secure, professional role in the arts where you can build a career?

Goat Track Theatre is growing on the Sunshine Coast and we're looking for an exceptional Drama & Theatre Teacher Artist to become an important part of our Sunshine Coast team.

This is not casual teaching or a collection of freelance workshop hours. Our Teacher Artists are employed as part of our permanent team, with regular wages, paid annual leave, paid personal/sick leave, superannuation and the security that comes with ongoing employment.

We believe talented arts practitioners should be able to build sustainable careers doing the work they love.

We're looking for an experienced theatre educator and practitioner who genuinely enjoys working with children and teenagers — someone with warmth, energy, excellent people skills and the ability to create a room where young people feel both supported and challenged to do their best work.

We are currently recruiting across both part-time and full-time availability, with opportunities for the role to grow as our Sunshine Coast programs continue to expand.

THE ROLE

Our Drama & Theatre Teacher Artists work across Goat Track's established theatre training programs at Noosa, Buderim, Coolum, Kawana, Baringa and Mudjimba.

Depending on experience, the successful applicant may work across:

GTKIDS

Our primary-aged drama program.

GTKids is energetic, creative and highly structured. Students explore acting, improvisation, character, storytelling, theatre-making and performance through a carefully developed curriculum.

For these classes, we're looking for someone who loves working with children.

You'll need to be playful, energetic and engaging while also being an excellent classroom leader.

Our curriculum and lesson structures are provided, so you won't be expected to reinvent the wheel each week. What we need is someone who can take excellent material and bring it brilliantly to life.

ACTOR'S STUDIO

Our teenage actor-training program.

Actor's Studio takes students deeper into the craft of acting and theatre-making, developing performance technique, character, ensemble, text, improvisation and contemporary theatre practice.

These classes require a Teacher Artist who can build genuine rapport with teenagers while maintaining clear expectations and a strong training environment.

Actor's Studio teaching takes place during the evenings.

FAST TRACK PRODUCTION

Our teenage production program.

For candidates with appropriate professional experience in directing, writing, devising and theatre production, there may also be the opportunity to work within our Fast Track Production program.

This is a different kind of teaching environment.

Fast Track Teacher Artists take greater creative ownership of their program and are responsible for guiding a teenage ensemble towards a substantial production outcome.

This can include:

  • Directing young performers

  • Writing, adapting or devising performance material

  • Managing rehearsals

  • Developing an ensemble

  • Planning and managing production timelines

  • Collaborating with the Goat Track production team

  • Taking responsibility for the artistic quality of the final work

For the right practitioner, this provides considerable creative autonomy.

Directing and Production experience is desirable, but it is not essential for every applicant.

We are equally interested in hearing from exceptional drama educators whose strengths lie in GTKids and Actor's Studio.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The person we're looking for has that rare combination of excellent theatre skills and excellent people skills.

You might be an actor, director, theatre-maker, drama educator, teaching artist or performing arts practitioner.

Your professional background matters — but so does the way young people respond to you.

Our strongest Teacher Artists are people who can walk into a room and create an environment that is:

Warm. Energetic. Structured. Creative. Safe. Fun. Ambitious.

They care deeply about their students while maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations.

They notice the child who is struggling.

They celebrate the student who finally takes a creative risk.

They can manage the enormous energy of a primary drama class without extinguishing it.

They can challenge a teenager artistically without losing their trust.

And they understand that being a great Teacher Artist means caring about both the quality of the art and the experience of the young person making it.

YOU'LL PROBABLY THRIVE AT GOAT TRACK IF YOU...

  • Genuinely enjoy working with children and teenagers

  • Bring warmth, humour and positive energy into a room

  • Are a confident and engaging facilitator

  • Have strong theatre, acting or performance knowledge

  • Have demonstrated experience teaching or facilitating young people

  • Have high emotional intelligence and communicate with empathy

  • Can establish clear expectations and manage a classroom confidently

  • Are organised, prepared and reliable

  • Pay attention to detail

  • Enjoy working within an established curriculum and program structure

  • Take feedback well and enjoy collaborating with a team

  • Have high standards for yourself and your students

  • Want young people to succeed

  • Can balance fun with genuine artistic rigour

  • Are looking for stable employment within the arts and an organisation you can grow with

For applicants interested in Fast Track Production, we would additionally value demonstrated experience in directing, writing, devising, production or ensemble theatre-making.

EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS

This is not an entry-level teaching position.

Applicants need to demonstrate relevant experience working with children and/or young people in a teaching, facilitation, theatre or performing arts environment.

Relevant qualifications or professional experience might include:

  • Drama or theatre

  • Acting

HOURS & OPPORTUNITY

We are currently recruiting for a full-time employee position; however, we are open to dividing the role into two substantial part-time employee positions for the right applicants.

This is an important distinction for us.

These are employee positions, not casual teaching contracts. We want our Teacher Artists to have the stability to make Goat Track a meaningful part of their professional career.

Depending on the final appointment and hours, employment includes applicable entitlements such as:

  • Regular wages/salary

  • Paid annual leave

  • Paid personal/sick leave

  • Superannuation

  • Regular and predictable employment

  • Paid planning, preparation and other responsibilities associated with the role

  • Access to established curriculum, resources and organisational support

  • Professional development and opportunities to take on greater responsibility as the company grows

The role will predominantly work across our GTKids and Actor's Studio programs.

For candidates with appropriate directing and production experience, there is potential to take responsibility for Fast Track Production as part of the position.

There may also be opportunities to work across:

  • Holiday productions

  • Workshops and intensives

  • Performance projects

  • Special events

  • Program development

  • Future Goat Track programs

  • Area coordination and team leadership

Goat Track is continuing to grow across South East Queensland, and we are interested in finding people who want to grow with us.

For someone looking to move beyond freelance and casual arts work into a secure professional position with genuine responsibility and room to develop, this is an exciting opportunity.

ABOUT GOAT TRACK THEATRE

Goat Track Theatre is a well established theatre and actor-training company established in 2009. The company delivers performing arts programs for young people across the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and Gold Coast and year on year is growing to meet demands.

Our students range from primary-aged children taking their first steps into drama through to teenagers undertaking advanced actor training and full-scale theatre productions.

We take young people seriously as artists.

Our programs are structured and curriculum-driven, but our classrooms are energetic, playful and deeply human.

We want our students to leave Goat Track as more confident performers, better collaborators and braver creative people.

And we want Teacher Artists who care about making that happen.

OUR RECRUITMENT PROCESS

Finding the right person to work with our young people matters enormously to us, so our recruitment process goes beyond a traditional sit-down interview.

Shortlisted applicants will initially be contacted for a conversation with our team.

Candidates progressing through the recruitment process will then be invited to attend our:

GROUP INTERVIEW

Friday 23 October 2026, 9am-12noon

Participation in the Group Interview is a compulsory part of the recruitment process for candidates wishing to proceed to the next stage.

The session gives us an opportunity to see candidates work practically, collaborate with others and demonstrate the qualities required of a Goat Track Teacher Artist.

Further information will be provided to shortlisted applicants.
