When fear becomes truth, no one is safe.

Salem, Massachusetts, 1692.

When a group of young girls are discovered dancing in the forest, fear and suspicion begin to spread through a deeply religious community. What starts as an attempt to avoid punishment quickly becomes something far more dangerous as accusations of witchcraft take hold and the girls discover the extraordinary power of being believed.

At the centre of the growing hysteria is Abigail Williams, a young woman wrapped in her own trauma and deep desire for love and power, determined to use their sudden rise in power to change her fate. As neighbours turn against neighbours and accusation becomes evidence, Salem's court grows increasingly unwilling to distinguish truth from fear, vengeance and self-interest.

John Proctor knows the accusations are built on lies. But exposing them will require him to reveal a truth of his own—one that could destroy his reputation, his marriage and everything he has fought to protect.

As the trials gather momentum and innocent people face the gallows, the people of Salem are forced to choose between reputation and integrity, obedience and conscience, survival and truth.

The Trial, written by Christie Eckersley, is a gripping examination of fear, power and collective hysteria—and of what happens when protecting an institution becomes more important than confronting the truth.

THE TRIAL,

is a play that is still relevant today as it warns against mass hysteria, political fear-mongering and the destruction of truth. Based on 'The Crucible' by Arthur Miller, it shows what people are willing to do to protect their name and reputation amongst their peers. Throughout this process, it has remained a relevant topic of discussion as news and fear still spread quickly and sometimes from an unreliable source, due to the accessibility of social media.

The most important thing when working with this ensemble of wonderful young Actors, was that the play was visually stimulating to the audience. Every moment, every movement, had to make sense both verbally and visually. We spent a lot of time together putting everything together like a puzzle to create the end result.

This ensemble of Actors were very involved with discussions about characters and digging deeper to find out the true meaning behind each character and also finding different reasons for their characters wanting to defend their names in the town, which will translate into their final performance that the audience will get to enjoy.

Though this play is full of fear, hysteria, romance and heartbreak, the energy that the Actors brought to class every week was very light hearted, fun, and they showed a keen interest to their characters and ultimately what makes them tick. Due to everyone's hard work over the past few Terms, I can confidently say that the personal growth that each student has had during the process of this production is something I am most proud of. Their dedication to their craft and willingness to learn and improve their skills has been truly inspirational to watch.

Working on this show with this ensemble has been a dream, and it has been one of my favourite shows that I've directed thus far. Collaborating with them and seeing them make really conscious character choices, and making suggestions about blocking has been my favourite aspect about this production because the whole thing felt like team work, rather than me telling them what to do. They brought their own ideas to the table and together, we created something spectacular.

I am exhilirated by the thought that this show will finally be performed for not only an audience, but the people who have helped support them through the journey.

This one's for you.

With love, Monique Rabie
