This intensive 4-hour American Accent Workshop is designed specifically for Acting for Film students who want to sharpen their U.S. accent for professional screen work. Whether you’re preparing for auditions or aiming to elevate the authenticity of your performances, this workshop focuses on both technical mastery and real-world application.

Workshop Breakdown

Part 1: Technical Foundations

Students will drill down into the mechanics of the American accent, including:

• Vowel and consonant placement

• Rhythm, stress and musicality of American speech

• Common Australian-to-American traps and how to avoid them

• Tools and techniques to maintain consistency under pressure

Part 2: Application for Screen

Students will then apply these skills in practice:

• Work on a short scene using an American accent

• Tape the scene as a mock self-test/audition

• Receive individualised feedback on accent, clarity, and screen authenticity

By the end of the workshop, students will leave with:

• Stronger accent control and awareness

• Practical tools they can immediately apply to auditions

• A recorded scene showcasing their American accent

• Targeted feedback to guide ongoing practice
